Brand History of Timberland

The Timberland® story began in 1952, when Nathan Swartz bought part of the Abington Shoe Company. He learned how to make shoes and began to work on ways to make them better. In 1965, the Swartz family made history by introducing injection molding to the footwear industry; creating the first, truly waterproof Timberland leather shoe.
The Timberland mission is to equip men, women and kids to make a difference in their world. With styles ranging from men’s outdoor boots to urban classic-heritage styles, Timberland offers a shoe for casual and outdoor wear. Moving forward in the women’s fashion world, Timberland now offers shoes, sandals and boots with versatile selections that translate effortlessly from day to night

Dry: WATERPROOF

Timberland got our start as an innovative outdoor brand by making our first waterproof boot almost 40 years ago. Today we still refuse to compromise on our standards for calling something waterproof. Our latest breakthroughs bring 100% waterproof performance where it’s never been before—into materials like wool and cotton.

• Technologies range from waterproof/breathable membranes to liquid-repellent nano coatings
• Every seam is sealed to ensure there are no leaks—even if submerged
• Footwear is tested by dunking it under water for four hours to ensure it stays dry

Dry: GORE-TEX® MEMBRANE

An internal Gore-Tex® membrane is built into the boot or shoe to create a waterproof and breathable barrier. The Gore-Tex® membrane keeps feet dry and protected, yet allows moisture vapor from sweat to pass through.

• 100% waterproof protection means feet stay dry
• Vapor from inside the shoe permeates the membrane
• Every seam is sealed with Gore-Tex® tape to ensure no leaks

The Timberland Independent Suspension Network™ system is a dynamic midsole that delivers superior control, support, stability and agility out on the trail.

• Tuned to each end-use—from day hiking or multi-day treks

Every time shoe soles are made, there’s leftover rubber. Vibram® Ecostep® soles are made with those scraps, reducing landfill waste and limiting toxins. The result is a sticky rubber sole that’s incredibly durable.
